"This is the place..."
The place is the Shinjuku #2-0-8 Branch of the Tokyo Police Department. A steam of people are entering and some are exiting. But standing in front of the stairs leading to it is a man and a woman who are looking up at the building. The man is pointing at the building to the girl.
The two stand there looking at the building for a few moments, she is trying to gather her courage to enter the building. The two of them together looks very odd, while the man is Caucasian she is Asian, the man is tall and built she is small and frail, the man is dressed in a sharp business suit and she could not be dressed any more casual unless she was in a Hawaiian shirt. The man towered over her, almost twice her size in both height and girth, his unkempt curly brown hair and beard gave him an almost intimidating look.
"I can't take you in there." he says to her.
"I know. I know." she says, turning her attention to the man by her side for a second. She takes the sunglasses she was wearing and slides them into his pocket. She smiles a bit and nods. "Okay, I'm going to go..."
The man smiles and pats her on the back gently. "She will be in the main lobby, the desk all the way in the back, on your right. " he says, as she nods again and walks up the steps to the building.
The woman looks back to the man for a second, then enters into the Police Department. It is very busy inside the building. She looks around for a moment to get her bearings. Both police and regular folk alike are littering the main lobby. Some of the people are in handcuffed, some just walking around. Almost every desk is occupied and at about half of them the officers who own the desk are talking to someone on the other side. Then she spots her target, sitting at the desk in the back on the right just like he said.
Keiko Matsumoto (Miyoko Kawashima's real name for those who may not know.) sat at her desk going over her paperwork. She loved her job but she hated paperwork, this was the time of the day she dreaded the most. She was hoping she would get a call and leave, but no such luck came. She was so engrossed in her work she did not notice the young girl approach her desk.
"Excuse me, are you Matsumoto-san?" the girl asks.
"Just Keiko is fine, yes that is me. Who are you and what can I help you with?" Miyoko asks her, turning in her chair to get a better look at the girl. Miyoko stares at the girls eyes for a moment, then blinks it off to pretend that she was not staring.
"My name is Hitomi Murasaki..." the girl starts to say, but is interrupted by Keiko right away.
"Hitomi... Murasaki... ka?" Miyoko asks the girl in return.
"Yes." she says in return, smiling a bit.
"I'm with Robbery, not Immigration. So what is your name, really?" Miyoko asks again, looking through the piles of papers on her desk for a blank forum.
"...That obvious?" she asks...
"I'm a detective, I get paid to observe... It is the double eyelid job you had done, no disrespect." Miyoko responds.
"Of course, none taken. Yun Goeun. My name is Goeun Yun. You can call me Yun, everyone does." the girl says to Miyoko, taking a seat finally. She shifts around in the seat a bit then relaxes and leans back in the chair.
"Okay, Yun. What can I help you with?"
"A... friend... of mine told me I could come to you for help." she says, pulling out a picture from her pocket and sliding it across Miyoko's desk. Miyoko picks the picture up and looks at it for a few seconds, she cracks a slight smile then slides it back.
"How is Joe?" she asks the girl, turning a picture on her desk around so the girl could see it. In the picture is three people, Miyoko Kawashima is in the middle and flanked on either side of her is a guy, the guy on the left is an unknown Japanese man but the guy on the right is the man standing outside the Police Building waiting for Yun, Joseph Shamrock.
"He is good!" Yun responds happily.
"You said friend, are you two dating? You look a little... YOUNG... for him..." Miyoko asks.
"No no no! If anything he is like a father to me, he has been more of a parent to me then my own parents. He is my bodyguard, well was I guess. I guess no one is signing his checks now that I ran away." Yun explains to Miyoko.
"What do you mean, ran away?" Miyoko responds.
"You don't know who I am?" Yun looks a little happy to hear this.
"Should I?" Miyoko asks in return.
"I am a member of Korean girl group, Unnie Club..." she sighs as she says this.
"...Oh, I don't listen to K-Pop. What can I help you with then, exactly?" Miyoko asks, eying her up and down. It is not every day some K-Pop singer bursts into your work and asks for help. Before Yun can respond one of Miyoko's co-workers comes over.
"Sorry! I've been... well I've over heard a bit of your conversation, so you ARE that Yun Goeun? Could I take a picture with you please?" the officer says. Yun sighs a bit louder then nods and stands up. The guy quickly holds out his cell phone and snaps a picture of him with his arm around Yun. She shakes his hand and he walks off after Miyoko clears her throat loudly.
"See?" says Yun, letting out another sigh.
Miyoko does not respond, she has turned to her computer and is typing and clicking away. Yun looks a bit annoyed as she watches Miyoko, she shifts in her seat some getting a bit uncomfortable due to the silence after what just happened.
From Miyoko's computer comes sounds of girls singing in Korean, then Miyoko laughing. She is looking at the screen then she looks over to Yun then back to what she is watching on her computer. She tries to stop laughing and make a straight face, clicking the video away.
"Okay, so you are." Miyoko says, Yun looks highly annoyed now. "As I said before, what can I help you with? I can't hide you, I could lose my badge. I owe Joe a lot, but I do not owe him my career." Miyoko says, eyeing Yun over now firmly. Trying to figure the girl out.
"I don't want anything like that... You see I am looking to become a wrestler, I have thought long and hard about this and Joe tells me you are the best person to teach me. Would you please teach me?" Yun asks, almost begging...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The members of Unnie Club had just finished a performance in front of a sold out crowd. The girls had retired to their dressing room where they were changing out of their costumes. Yun looked around at the other five girls and sighed. This was the moment she realized she hated this. She hated being told what to do, she hated being told when to do it, she hated being paraded in scantly clad clothing singing and dancing to thousands of screaming... horny... men.
To her it was like legalized slavery. She did not wish for this, her parents sold her essentially to the record label when she was 11. She went through four years of training and schooling. All of her classes were held privately for just the six girls of the group. In these classes they were taught what to expect of this life, they were taught English, they were taught Japanese. Anything to increase marketability around the world. They were taught to sing and to dance. But worst of all each member was given a personality, a scripted personality and they were taught how to live this personality.
She could not have friends, any friends she had before she joined the group were all she was allowed to stay in contact with. The other members of the group were her friends now. They dictated when she could leave the house, they dictated what she could do at all times. It was 3:30, it was time to shower. It was 4:00, it was time to eat. Oh god, how she hated the meals. She had been hungry ever since joining the group, the restricted diet they were forced to abide by made her hate them even more.
It was all to keep her figure, it was all to put on a performance to make guys want her. To fight over her, to think they had a chance in hell of being her girlfriend. They would sit on the internet at night and talk to other fans about how sexy their favorite member was, about how crappy other Korean groups were, and if you liked Girls Generation but not Unnie Club it was WAR.
But most of all she hated that she had to fear for her safety. She was given a bodyguard the first week in the record label, a man named Joseph Shamrock. She liked him, but she didn't like the reason she had to have him. Guys would try anything to get close to her. Shamrock was trained to what guys to let near her, guys just seeking autographs was one thing, maybe a picture with her or two. But then there were the other guys, Shamrock was trained to spot them and to keep them away from Yun.
When she left the house he had to be with her, if they went anywhere he had to be with her. Sure, she felt safe. She did trust him, and like him. He was actually her closest friend. But she hated that at any moment some crazy man would try to grope her or worse. When she attended public events like Music Awards she hated that the male celebrities could just sit in with the crowd while girls like her had to be barricaded off from the rest of the crowd. It was scary.
But this was the moment she wanted out.
Yun excused her self and got up and left the locker room. She was in such a hurry with so much on her mind she was still in her costume. As she entered the hallway outside the locker room she could hear the screaming fans just feet away, security doing their best to keep them from pushing into their locker room. This made Yun laugh because when she left two of them were naked and this would be any fans wet dream.
"Where is Joe?" Yun asked to one of the other bodyguards.
The other bodyguard pointed into another room right next to the locker room. She smiled and thanked him then entered into the room. She looked around, it was the bodyguards room. Where they went to rest when the girls were on stage or in their locker room. Only Shamrock was in here, he sat on the far side of the room watching the American News.
"I could have just been groped and violated in the hallway, Joe. Where were you?" she asked giggling. Shamrock spun around in his chair, it was rare for the girls to come in here.
"Hey, I'm sorry. But I am sure one of my colleagues would never have let those perverts come near you, no fear Yun." he says laughing in return. "So how was the concert? Seemed like quite the crowd." he asks her.
"It sucked." she says sitting down next to him.
"How so?" he asked.
"I never wanted this. I thought if I kept with it, I would learn to love it. But it has been six long years now. I, thought honestly after the training was over I would love being a famous singer. That I would grow into the role. That I would become that hyper bubbly Yun that I am suppose to be on camera. But, I really do not love any of it." she sighs as she speaks.
"I see..." he says, looking into her eyes.
"It was my parents who wanted this, it was never my choice." she closes her eyes and leans back in her chair, thinking about all the things she could have been in her life. But this was the life she was stuck with.
"I guess we are not so different after all, I never really choose my life either. It got forced on me, I guess in many ways by my parents also." he says with a smile, a smile that always warmed her heart when she was feeling down.
"What do you mean?" she asks curiously.
"They were killed when I was 10. Car accident, a drunk driver ran a red light. Both my parents were DOA at the scene. I was put into an Orphanage. But, who in their right mind would adopt a 10 year old... Especially a foreign 10 year old..." says with some disgust.
"Foreign? Where did you live?" she asks, honestly interested in his life. They had known each other for six years now, she shared everything about her life with him. But she knew next to nothing about him.
"I was born in Japan. The son of an American Military Officer and a Japanese woman. I was born and raised there. I never saw America till I was 20 truth be told, and I was only there for six months as part of a job." he says to her, she liked Japan but had never been so he knew this would be fascinating to her.
"Wow... I would have never know." she says.
"So to go on, I ended up on the streets. A lot. I became friends with all the wrong people. A boy name Yoshihiro Gotoh. He became my best friend, we become very good friends. We both turned to a life of crime to get by, we stole, we beat up people for things we wanted. As we got older we only got nastier. When we were 17, Yoshihiro became part of the local Yakuza. He got me to join with him..." he says, a little disgust can be detected in his voice. Shamrock is very ashamed of the life he used to live.
"But you are..." she starts to say but gets cut off.
"White? Yes, I am. Yoshihiro vouched for me. I was allowed in under his guidance as a probationary member. I had to prove my self loyal. After a year I had proven my self loyal and became a full member. Me and Yoshihiro remained a team, we did a lot of bad things together. A lot of things I can never forget. I've done things I can never... I can never undo. No mater how hard I try. It was four years later, on my 21st Birthday that I realized this was not the life for me. I was like you, the life I got forced into was not the one I wanted to do..." he says, looking into her eyes with a smile.
"What did you do?" she asks, on the edge of her seat listening to his story.
"I left." he laughs.
"But you can't just leave the Yakuza!" she says surprised.
"Actually you can. I told the boss that this was not what I wanted to do with my life. He told me because I had been one of his most loyal that I was free to leave and if I ever needed work to look him up. We shook hands and I went on my way. Yoshihiro though always felt like I betrayed his friendship, his trust. He never let me leave." he explains to her. He closes his eyes for a moment, the face of Yoshihiro Gotoh flashes before his eyes.
"What did he do?" she asks, very curious.
"He sought me out, many years later. Was about 10 years later I would say, I was involved in my new life, my new job. Then he showed up, reminded me of the past. Told me I dishonored him. Honor is very important in the Yakuza... And... Can we not discuss this part?" he says, his eyes holding back sadness.
"I am sorry to ask, Joe. So, what did you do when you left? I mean what did you do before you decided to protect innocent Korean girls like me from the Pervos?" she asks, her attention fixed at him fully.
"I became a wrestler. A pretty good one too, made a name for my self across America and Japan. Made a lot of money, and I was pretty happy with it. I would still be doing it if it was not for my leg. Before you ask, I am not going to tell you what happened to my leg." he laughs at the end.
"Wow, that is so cool, a wrestler..." she closes her eyes and leans back in her chair, she pictures her self wrestling in a match, she wondered if she would like it. She was sure she would like it better then this, but she just knew she had to get away from THIS and find out what she liked for her self... Wether it be wrestling or just serving food to old people. She wanted to do something SHE liked...
"I've made up my mind. I am going to do what you did, Joe. I am going to leave. I am going to escape." she says with a smile. She looks at Shamrock, maybe she should not have told him that. Her record label paid his salary, and he was hired to protect her. To keep tabs on her. To keep her from doing something just like this. He knew she was thinking that too and laughed.
"Remember when you came crying to me one day, when SooYoung and you got into a fight over something stupid? You felt like no one in the house liked you, and that you had no friends? Do you remember what I told you?" he asked her, a serious look on his face.
"That it is just in my mind, that the girls are all my friends." she says in a drone, kind of mimicking his voice.
"No, after that. Remember? I told you no mater what happens, even if the sky falls down, I promise you I will always protect you. I am paid to protect you, I was not paid to feel something for you. I care more about you then my pay check, Yun. If you want to escape, I want to help you." he says with a smile, she starts to cry.
"Thank you, Joe." she chokes out from behind tears. "How will we get away? Where will we go?"
"...Leave that to me. I have some friends in Japan who owe me a favor or two... I think maybe it is time to collect on some of them." he says with a smile... Yun was finally going to be free, free to pursue her own dreams. She did not know what repercussions would follow her for leaving her life as it was now. But she had to find something she was put on this earth to do... because it was not what she was doing now...
"I've made up my mind. I am going to do what you did, Joe. I am going to leave. I am going to escape." she says with a smile. She looks at Shamrock, maybe she should not have told him that. Her record label paid his salary, and he was hired to protect her. To keep tabs on her. To keep her from doing something just like this. He knew she was thinking that too and laughed.
"Remember when you came crying to me one day, when SooYoung and you got into a fight over something stupid? You felt like no one in the house liked you, and that you had no friends? Do you remember what I told you?" he asked her, a serious look on his face.
"That it is just in my mind, that the girls are all my friends." she says in a drone, kind of mimicking his voice.
"No, after that. Remember? I told you no mater what happens, even if the sky falls down, I promise you I will always protect you. I am paid to protect you, I was not paid to feel something for you. I care more about you then my pay check, Yun. If you want to escape, I want to help you." he says with a smile, she starts to cry.
"Thank you, Joe." she chokes out from behind tears. "How will we get away? Where will we go?"
"...Leave that to me. I have some friends in Japan who owe me a favor or two... I think maybe it is time to collect on some of them." he says with a smile... Yun was finally going to be free, free to pursue her own dreams. She did not know what repercussions would follow her for leaving her life as it was now. But she had to find something she was put on this earth to do... because it was not what she was doing now...
