What was originally announced as "the usual bumps and bruises" quickly became something much worse, and a request for a week off soon turned into a month and a half on the shelf.
That was the unfortunate luck of Nathan Lucas, the former WGWF Television Champion and 2011 Master of the Mat finalist (depending on who you ask). Lucas was last seen in action on June 20th in Toronto, Ontario where he defended his championship against Double G in a match that was closer than many experts anticipated, though as the post-match 'dirtsheets' began circulating the internet, the reason was beyond just being a poor performance.
The Lucas camp was quick to defend against the rumors, and Nathan's older brother Christopher was the first to reach out to the press.
"Yes, Nathan is hurt, and yes, the injury occurred last week in a match with James Raven," read his statement, "but regardless of how close the match with Double G was tonight, the fact remains that Nathan is still the champion, and that won't be changing any time soon."
The words, however, were spoken too soon. The following week on Brawl it was announced Nathan would require time off to recover from what was announced to be a mild wrist injury and several fractured ribs. While Lucas' camp maintains that the original request was one week, WGWF management claims it was an "indefinite leave", and Ranma Saotome stripped Nathan of the title during Double G's "Showcase" segment.
Now, nearly a month and a half later, the same source that reported the injury is reporting a full recovery.
How will the longest reigning TV Champion of all time handle the increased challenge of the IC division, and how will he fare against Jason Mudd, one of the most dominating superstars in the business? Time will tell, as will they show us whether the injury is truly behind him, but one thing is certain... the fans are looking forward to seeing "The Game" in action once more.
Thanks for playing.

Nathan Lucas is hurt. They're saying it happened v. Raven last week on Brawl. Probably dropping the TV title and taking some time off?
