WGWF's house show kicks off between Smash and Brawl. A virtual showcase put together by the Mastermind to develop the future of the company for performance health feeding the roster for many years to come. Wrestlers in the back talk about match spots, execution, and work on promos to further enhance their standing to hopefully get to the main rosters. Staffers working for Page go over the tenants of solid mic work with some of the physically gifted guys who have opportunities. They discuss topics in conversations ranging from exciting the crowd, to playing to their strengths, and even facial expressions during verbal delivery. As the show lights up, patrons rally to their seats in the small ballroom type setting. The ring bell chimes three times signaling things being underway. Dimming ballroom lights turn to gold for a moment. All the lights go out. Patron phones illuminate all over the crowd. Staffers run around trying to find building maintenance to check on the fuses, thinking the entrance cues may have blown a gasket. A golden spotlight appears in the ring. In it stands a performer with a mic stand in front of him. He tips his slick Stetson cowboy hat forward, slowly tilting the microphone to his lips. It's hard to make out his face under the hat in the darkness. Fans murmur about what this is, assuming a new talent debut for development.
Under the Brim:
"So much talent. Learning the ropes. What a literal pun. Working on their craft, their bodies,
and putting the work in to try to find a speckle of greatness. For some it comes naturally.
Others... work their entire lives and never find the spark that ignites.
Many in the business think an opportunity in the right place or right time makes all the difference."
Teetering his head back and forth with his fingers on the brim.
"The truth is... that's marginal. When you have it, opportunities find you, it's obvious,
and that defines how you are perceived. HmmMm. How do I know?"
He raises the bill to reveal poignant focused eyes.
"Well, I reckon my perception in the business is extremely unique. Some call me talented.
Many wait for me to show my face... so that they can try to cast it out.
Fear is a tool used in the business. Yet here I am, with another opportunity.
Why? Not because I carved it out of some cue card."
Demonstrative, but calm and assertive.
"NO- BECAUSE...
I AM THE VERY BEST.
NOTHING MORE. NOTHING LESS.
I am wrestling gravity. All attracts to my forceful pull.
The very best matches. The very biggest spots. And Championships.
World Championships. Universal Championships. Even Xtreme Championships.
Kinda Hard to keep gravity around if you don't want your opportunities pulled into it."
Fans piece together some of the info, murmuring increases as they share information.
"Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news... but gravity can't be stopped.
Ya'll enjoy the show- but don't go thinking these guys are next.
There is no more next. THERE'S ONLY..."
Pivoting mouth back to microphone.
"This Cowboy- HIM."
A smirk peaks into the gold spotlight.
"UNDER THE BRIM."
Staffers backstage rip up their promo notes, pointing to the monitor instead.
