OOC: I know I'll get dinged for it being majorly late, but I lost power thanks to tropical storm/depression Ophelia, and my phone died until just a little while before deadline, so I wasn't able to work on stuff for quite a few hours. I didn't want to completely no show though.
Winning on Melee brought Skylar a new bit of confidence in her abilities, but when she looked at who she beat, the young woman had to ask herself if the confidence was rightly earned or not. It wasn’t as if John Blade was some grizzled, tough as nails veteran. Just about anyone could beat him if they actually gave half a damn to try. The young woman was sitting at the desk in the spare room of her apartment…the room that she used kind of like an office for her school work and any online interviews that she did. Her laptop was set up on the desk, but she was zoned out from what she had been doing on it as she thought about her WGWF debut.
??: ”Skylar? Hellooooooooo? SKYLAR!”
Skylar quickly shook her head and looked at her computer, having completely forgotten that she was on a video call with Jessi Ozborne. She ran a hand through her dual-toned hair and sighed a little. The young woman gave Jessi an apologetic smile.
Skylar Carsons: ”Crap! Sorry Jessi, I kinda spaced out a little bit….forgot we were on the call for a second. Just had some stuff on my mind is all.”
Jessi Ozborne: ”Well…I know it wasn’t about my brother. You didn’t have that dorky smile on your face that you get when he’s around or when you’re talking about him. So what’s up? ”
Skylar blushed a little, a small smile coming to her face at the mention of Otto…which of course made Jessi laugh as her point was proven. The California native flipped her friend off which only made the other woman laugh harder.
Skylar Carsons: ”Just thinking about WGWF is all. I mean…I beat John Blade in my debut. Can I even call that a good job considering who it was against?”
Jessi Ozborne: ”They wanted to get a feel for your skills, that’s all. I mean, they could have put you against someone better, but it is what it is. You won and that’s what counts. Besides, don’t you have a Fatal Fourway coming up on their other show?”
Skylar shrugged then gave a little nod. The show was the next day, and she was actually due to fly out to Vegas later that day with the need to head to the airport soonish.
Skylar Carsons: ”Yeah…it’s tomorrow night against Joule Ortiz, Artemis, and Atara Raven. I’m set to-”
Before Skylar could finish her sentence, an alarm on her phone began going off. She had honestly forgotten that she had set it for when she needed to start heading out. The young woman sighed once more, giving Jessi an apologetic smile as she silenced the alarm.
Skylar Carsons: ”I’ve got to head out now actually…I’ve got to grab Oliver and get us to the airport so we can get through security in enough time. I’ll talk to you later, Jessi.”
Jessi Ozborne: ”Kick some ass, Skylar. You know we’re all rooting for you.”
Skylar nodded before she hung the call up then proceeded to turn her laptop off and pack it in its travel bag. If they were going to be on time, she needed to leave to get her brother ASAP, and she had no plans on missing their flight to Las Vegas. In her mind, Skylar had more to prove.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the CCPE Arena at the Velvet Rabbit in Las Vegas, Skylar Carsons was backstage with her brother, Oliver Carsons. Much like when they had been seen for Melee, Oliver had his sunglasses on and his hands in his jean pockets. There was a blank expression on his face as his sister paced back and forth a bit. Skylar was in her ring gear, her jean jacket laying on an equipment crate nearby along with her baseball hat. It was clear that there was something on the rookie wrestler’s mind.
Skylar Carsons: ”Y’know…my debut match with WGWF, I beat John Blade in a tables match on Melee. For a couple of days, my confidence was boosted a little, but the more I thought on it, the more that confidence boost disappeared. I mean, it was John Blade after all. Someone with no training could most likely beat him with a little effort.”
Skylar’s brother let out a chuckle at his sister’s words though he quickly stifled it when she shot him a look. He shrugged in response, not bothering to speak up and say anything. She stopped pacing and focused on the camera.
Skylar Carsons: ”Tonight on Brawl, well that’s going to be my true test, isn’s it? I’m in a fatal 4 way against some pretty good names from the things I’ve heard. Well…of the two names I’ve heard about, at least. Unfortunately, I can’t say much on Joule because I haven’t heard much about her. To me, that really is a huge shame because she seems interesting.”
Skylar paused and walked over to the equipment crate that her stuff was resting on. She grabbed her baseball hat and slid it onto her head, immediately turning it backwards so the bill of it was in the back instead of the front. She glanced at her brother who only gave her a small nod of encouragement, silently urging her to continue on.
Skylar Carsons: ”Atara Raven…anyone that has enough common sense knows that you’re quite the name in this business. A Goddess, as you call yourself, but you’re being put against rookies. The lack of respect is really a shame…you would think that there would be more, better for you. While I’m honored to be going against someone as great as you, I am sorry that it’s happening this soon. I would have wanted to have a little more under my belt before getting to share a ring with you. Of course, some may end up calling me an ass-kisser for saying all of that, but I know when respect is due and deserved. I’m not afraid to give it to those who are deserving, and I would be an idiot if I tried to say that you don’t deserve it. And it’ll be an honor when I beat you this evening as well.”
The dual-tone haired wrestler grabbed her jean jacket and slid it on, adjusting the collar of it once she was wearing it. Skylar licked her lips as she thought about the last individual that she was set to face in the match. She had heard things about Artemis…a so-called artist in the woman’s mind. The California native shook her head a little before she continued.
Skylar Carsons: ”Naturally that brings me to the last person, aside from myself of course, that’s involved in this match…Artemis. I heard that you’re some kind of artist, which is pretty cool in its own right, but where’s your art? Where’s your passion? At least when I’m a part of something, it’s because of how passionate I am for it. Wrestling has been a part of my life since Oliver and I were kids. When we watched it growing up, we talked about being at each others’ side for our future careers, and we’ve held true to that promise. When Oliver started out before I graduated high school, I went to every single match of his that I could, and when I was ready to start training, he was there to help me. This is the anniversary show for Brawl…a win here tonight could and would likely do wonders for one’s career, especially for someone new.”
Skylar looked over at her brother, the older of the two nodding again. She stuffed her hands in her jacket pockets, much like her brother had done since the beginning of her impromptu camera time. She let out a small chuckle before she spoke again.
Skylar Carsons: ”Tonight may only be my 2nd match with WGWF, but I plan on making it my best match. I’m looking to make a name for myself…to make my name a household, fan favorite among everyone possible. I want to help inspire the next generation, and if I get told by an aspiring, future wrestler that tonight’s match is what made them want to join the profession? Well…that’s the ultimate win for me in the long run of it all. If you can’t or don’t have that kind of drive? That makes me sad for you, but it sounds like a personal problem within yourself. I’ll help be part of the solution for it…I’ll happily take on the mantle if it’s too much for the 3 of you. See you in the ring, ladies.”
Oliver Carsons: ”And you can all bet on that.”
With that, the siblings turned on their heels and began walking down the hallway. Skylar wanted to get some last minute stretching in to make sure that she was fully ready, and Oliver had decided that he was going to hit up catering to grab them some waters before the match was set to begin.
