Skylar was at her brother’s apartment, her mood down a little as she thought back to her last match. The video of the pay-per-view had yet to be released for the public to see, so of course the young woman hadn’t said anything about what had happened. She was staring at the carpet as she sighed which led to her brother coming over to sit beside her on the couch with a plop.
“Alright, what’s up, sis? Normally you’re excited when you have a match coming up. This isn’t like you at all.”
“Oliver, how can I be excited when I can’t even reveal if I’ve won my first ever championship or not? That show hasn’t been released, and I don’t know when or even if it’s going to be.”
Oliver frowned a little as he looked at Skylar and sighed. He rubbed the back of his neck, trying to find the words to comfort his sister. He hadn’t ever gone to a major company like she had, but they had a shared journey on the independent scene which helped a little. He leaned forward and put his arms against his legs.
“Look Sky, I can’t tell you how to feel about that one. It was your big night in your first major company, and there’s been some issues since the show was recorded. I don’t know how that feels from a competitor’s standpoint, only from the view as your manager and brother. As a competitor in general, though, all I can say is go out there for Melee and kick John Blade’s ass in your Tables match.”
“I’m still such a rookie, though, Oliver. That match was supposed to be my shining moment for my professional career, and now I don’t know who I am in this business. Things just seem a little muddled is all.”
Oliver gave Skylar a side hug as she sighed again before moving to sit on the edge of the coffee table in order to be able to look her in the eye. There was a serious look on his face as he made her look up at him.
“Listen to me, and listen to me good. You’re Skylar fucking Carsons, that’s who you are in this business. For a rookie, you’re amazing in the ring, and you’ve stood your ground in your matches. That’s what got you that International Championship match against Chris Matthews, and it’s what’s going to get you through your tables match against John Blade. Don’t ever doubt yourself just because the world hasn’t seen one of your matches. That’s not who you are nor is it who you’ll ever be.”
Skylar gave her brother a small smile before she hugged him tightly. He ruffled her hair some before he pushed himself off of the table. Oliver made his way to the apartment’s kitchen to grab them some drinks and a take-out menu, glancing back at his little sister, seeing her sending a text on her phone as a smile danced on her face, which of course told him she was probably texting Otto but as long as she was smiling…that was what mattered to him.

Backstage, Skylar Carsons was standing with her brother/manager, Oliver. It was a few days after she had gone to see him at his apartment where he had given her a bit of a pep talk. The young wrestler was all smiles like her brother knew her to be, so he felt right keeping a stoic look on his face along with his sunglasses on like he was known to do. He had his hands in his jean pockets as Skylar began speaking, her own hands in the pockets of her jean jacket.
“Tonight, I face off against John Blade…a well-known guy in this industry. Well-known but not well-liked by many from the stories I’ve heard. He signs with companies and has a bad habit of demanding to be shuttlejumped to the front of the line with championships. What kind of honorable wrestler does that as soon as they’ve signed somewhere?”
Skylar shook her head in shame for the man that she was set to face at the beginning of Melee. It really did shock her that there were still people out there that thought they were really all that when they had nothing worthwhile to show in order to back the claim up. The young woman pushed some blue strands of hair out of her face and glanced over to her brother, receiving only a shrug from him in response.
“John, you’ve been in this business for so many years yet I’ve heard from others that it’s the same story wherever you go. How can you call yourself a worthy wrestler if you just recycle the same stuff over and over again? Where’s your worth without any growth? I just don’t get it, honestly. You would think that you’d want to be the best you possibly can be…I know I do. That’s my goal and aspirations as a young wrestler.”
Skylar paused again and let out a gentle sigh, hanging her head down for a second. She slipped her hands out of her pockets then licked her lips as she turned her baseball hat around so the front was in the back. The California native slowly raised her head, a glimmer of light flashing in her eyes as a smile graced her features.
“I may be the underdog in this match, but that’s not going to keep me from kicking your ass, Blade. Tonight is my debut for Melee, for WGWF, and I intend on making it a debut to remember. I won’t let anything stand in my way, especially you, and that means putting your ass through a table. There’s one thing I can promise you and everyone else…you’ll never forget the name Skylar Carsons after this fiery debut.”
With that, Skylar shrugged lightly, the smile still on her face. She looked at her brother, giving a small nod, and the two began leaving. Just when Skylar was out of view, Oliver paused and lowered his sunglasses for a second, looking at the camera.
“And you can bet on that, Blade.”
With that single sentence, he replaced his sunglasses, and Oliver walked out of view to join his younger sister.
