*The following is a supplemental piece that was originally supposed to air with Sunday Night DARK. The submission came in late on Sunday and the Sauce Boss completely missed the segment. Apologies for the error. I hope you enjoy the show!
Johnathan Cable had spent countless hours wandering the CCPE Arena over the last several months, and in that time, he had memorized every hallway in the backstage area and where it went and how they all connected to the lobby hub. He had used that knowledge to avoid the Lock Down Security Guards who had been looking for him for a few hours following the West Coast Rumble. Granted, after the first hour the crew had been disbanded mostly, with only a couple of small roving guard groups on the look out for him wandered the halls now, and it had been a while since he had even seen them.
John hadn't found PMont or Fred Debonair backstage either, which frustrated the Beast. Their locker rooms had been empty when he had arrived and had “checked” for them inside. He was tired of waiting to get booked in a match to deliver the receipts he had to hand out, and after the two of them directly stole his chance to get his Title back in the Rumble... he was due to hand out more than a few slips of paper.
As he rounded a corner in the hallway, a group of three guards spotted him and took off in his direction.
“Mr. Cable! Stop right there!” one one of the men shouted as they hoofed it towards him.
John was not about to wait around to find out what they wanted... he already knew. Darina would not be happy about him causing problems on her job site, and he knew he would have to deal with her eventually, but it didn't have to be tonight. Tonight, he had other plans, and they didn't involve listening to Darina yelling at him about professionalism and how her guys were put at risk. He had made sure not to touch a single one of the guards, and had avoided them mostly as best as he could. It wasn't their fault that he had been cheated tonight... no... that was all on Fred, PMont, Flynn, and Vaughn... and as soon as he could find any one of them... he would make sure they knew about it.
He ducked back down the hallway he had come through, and turned another corner only to run headlong into another two guards running towards the intersection just behind him. The three of them flew to the floor with the impact, legs and arms all akimbo in the pile of bodies in the middle of the hallway.
John, hearing the three guards charging their way, struggled swiftly to untangle from the other two he had accidentally run over in his getaway, but they both latched on and struggled to maintain their hold on him however they could manage it. John strained against one man holding on to his arm, and lifted the young man up out of the pile and into the air, holding him up off the floor, eye to eye with him as he hung there in the air before him while his partner clung to his leg like a toddler seeking asylum.
John looked from the man sitting on his foot wrapped around his leg to the man dangling before him, and then snorted a gruff growl at the one hanging from his arm. The man flinched in terror and screamed a shrill shriek of a whimper in spite of his best efforts not to. Shaken and afraid, the man let go of John's arm to cover his face, and fell, hard, on the floor beneath him.
John looked down at the man on his leg, and as he did so, the man peeked up to look at him from the huddled grasp he had around his massive thigh. John feinted a huge right hand swing, and this one also squealed shrilly as he rolled away from John, letting his leg go and covering his face in terror. John looked at them both once more as the three other guards broke around the corner in a dead run.
John pushed himself back first against the wall as the three arriving guards went flying over the bodies of the other two on the floor at full speed, and rolled into a mass across the hall. John stifled a giggle at the scene before him before he took off around the corner where he had been heading in the first place, and left the guards to pull themselves apart on the floor, but as he turned to head away from the pretzel of people, a hard SMACK rang out as John was struck across the face out of nowhere.
Pain bloomed in his face spreading from his eye to his neck... his vision went blurry for a moment... but as he blinked and shook his head side to side, his sight straightened out again and there, before him in the middle of the hallway, was Darina Weiman, her hands on her hips and her face snarled up in a vicious frown of anger.
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” she demanded, her voice stern and furious, through gritted teeth, forced to remain calm... and this WAS calm for her.
“Me? Who the fuck do you think you are to...” John started before she lashed out a lightning quick slap once more, and again, his face exploded in pain and his eyes wobbled in his head. One of his knees went weak and threatened to give out on him while he stood there wavering and shaking his head to clear the cobwebs. John knew she had had a lot of training, and had been in some pretty rough spots... but she hit like she had cinder blocks in her hands. It was enough to make him think twice about provoking another one of those unguarded for sure... but then she started screaming at him.
“I may draw a paycheck from you... But this is MY contract, and you are causing a problem with my crew! You pay me to do a job... and if you think I am about to let you put my men in danger or jeopardize my missions for your bullshit, you got another thing coming! You fucking know better, John! You put me in this position because of my service with Seabass... and that I was the best one for the job... and if you th...” Darina starts to rant passionately, seething in rage at his apparent disregard for the job and her men before John interrupts.
“This has nothing to do wi...” he managed before she lashed out again, a right headed straight for his temple this time. The speed she launched these with was impressive, and John struggled to get his arm up in time to trap the punch, but got his shoulder high enough to deflect the blow... but not the counter's counter. As her right glanced off of John's shoulder, her left knee came up and caught John in the side, just below his rib-cage, and he doubled over as her knee connected with his floating ribs and the soft insides near his kidneys.
“It has EVERYTHING to do with that! You aren't some dumb ass football washout or rich kid with no sense and a ton of power, you dumbass! Stop acting like THEM... and start taking care of business again. You're an investor in this company... and tonight you cost yourself some money on a few busted doors and vacation days for the crew assigned to your hall tonight. I get it... You're bent about how the Rumble worked out, and you think you need to go pay a visit to the men responsible right? Pffft....” she chuckles at him sarcastically.
'Yeah, so...” John starts, doubled over still with one hand cradling his ribs and the other on the side of his face, but Darina V8 palm slaps him in the forehead before cutting him off.
“How'd the confrontation in the hallway at PCW work out for you and Seabass, huh? Did that go the way you thought it would? He's still in fucking jail, you idiot... all because the two of you couldn't keep your shit in the ring... and even when he gets out of there... we ain't sure he's gonna be alright after everything... you know? What the fuck would me and Owen have done if you hadn't swooped in and saved the day picking up the litigation costs and overseeing the business acquisitions? You think we had the money to handle the legal fees alone for his defense attorneys let alone the IRS hearings and the contract negotiations to handle the contract transfers?” she yells at him, spit flinging from the corner of her mouth as the fury in her words slips a little more with each syllable.
“I don...” John starts before she cuts into him again, stifling his words.
“See... we're loyal to you for a lot of reasons, John. Most importantly, we saw how you stuck your neck out and what you were willing to do to help Sebastian, and we saw how it affected you when all the shit hit the fan, and it wasn't just about the money. Hell... you never even ask how much shit costs... you just told us to take care of it and paid the bill.” she flings her arms out to her sides in exasperation before continuing to chide the Beast.
“You were there for every hearing, and made sure you were on the phone with his lawyers every day. That told us you were worth being loyal to, and we hadn't found that kind of person outside of Sebastian in a long time. But since then... the Lock Down Crew has prospered. We've never had it so easy to make a living doing what we do, and doing it all above board, too?” She slaps her hands to her hips and kicks one foot to the side in a pose over John, when she cocks her head to the side, and keeps railing into him.
“Matter of fact… Fuck you, Johnathan Cable. There were plenty of years Seabass, me, and Owen were diving dumpsters to eat in between drug runs as armed guards for the shadiest of fucking people on the planet... and then you and your Foundation showed us a life we only ever dreamed of. Hell... I thought I had made it when Seabass rescued me out of the Jungle and brought me back to the civilized world of cities and cheeseburgers... but then you blow in and show me what life can really be like, and for once in my life... I don't have to be a criminal or hide who I am to do a job worth doing... and if you think for one second you're going to ruin it by blowing your top over a wrestling match and trashing some swanky hotel casino... you got another thing coming you fucking moron.” she spat at him as she dumped a decade of emotions onto him in that tirade. She had never spoken to him like that before, and wasn't sure she was about to try to do it again... but in the moment, she needed him to understand what he was doing, and how it affected others.
“I... um...” John stammered for a moment, lost in the meaning of the things she had said, and ashamed of himself for how he had been the last few hours... self-absorbed and ignoring the wider world around him.
“Shut up. You've wasted enough of my time already tonight that I'm charging you double overtime for the whole crew. I got no more time to waste listening to you blubber about the Belt right now. Let's go get your shit and I'm taking you to your apartment.” she said matter of factly with a roll of her eyes and then she turned her back on him with a swirl of her blonde ponytail and started heading down the hallway towards his dressing room.
“And yes... that's an order.” She finishes off in a flat tone without even looking back in his direction, storming off down the hall as the scene fades to black.
