“Legacy is a funny thing, depending on who you talk to it may be good or it may be bad. Once upon a time I cared about how people saw me, I cared about what people thought about me. I once went by the name Nick Nitro, and because of Hunter, I went back to using my family’s last name.”
I take a sip of coffee, as I look out over the skyline of Tampa.
“Then Hunter went and disowned the Ryan name, saying he didn’t want to be associated with what that last name meant. Sure, the name hasn’t always had the greatest meaning, but I thought he and I were on our way to changing that. If you go all the way back to my great grandparents who were driven from their home in Ireland, our family name has always been a bit cursed.”
I puff my cigar before placing it back in the ashtray.
“Once upon a time the WGWF was struggling, many industry people thought the company was on life support. Shortly before I came here is when I changed from Nitro to Ryan, so when I came here I felt it was a fresh start. My joining the company ushered in a new era for the WGWF, and it really was a fresh start. Within months I was battling for the World Heavyweight title against Chris Page.”
“I remember being backstage at Armageddon Five when that intro played leading to the match against Page. I had known earlier in the day I wasn’t walking out of that match with the title, I wasn’t mad. The higher ups let me know I would get another match the next month at Caged In pending how that night’s match went. With my swagger back I knew I would be getting that match, so I bided my time. That night at Armageddon Five, Chris and I tore the house down…literally. That match ended with neither of us able to finish”
“A month later in Las Vegas, I would capture the WGWF World Heavyweight Championship.”
“I remember standing backstage that night in Vegas, knowing I would be walking away as champion. Throughout my career I’ve been nervous ahead of matches. That night though was on a whole different level.”
I take another sip of my coffee as the sun begins to set.
“Since that night I have headlined numerous pay per views, hell I even main evented Wrestlewars as the World Heavyweight Champion. That’s something only one other person in this Intercontinental Title tournament can say if memory serves me correctly. Since then I have been a part of numerous multiple match main events. The night I walked into the Tokyo Dome was the pinnacle of my career. I remember standing backstage listening to the boos and cheers for Hunter and Page, the title belt wrapped around my waist as I waited for my theme to hit. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined walking into Wrestlewars as the Heavyweight Champion, but that wasn’t my best performance.”
I rub my shoulder and chest remembering one of my last Wrestlewars matches.
“I faced off against one of the greatest wrestlers in the world, a guy who has won more gold than probably anyone in this industry. Ranma Saotome was supposed to utterly destroy me in the Malice Through the Looking Glass match. No one gave me a chance, and while I lost that match I opened a lot of eyes in the process. Ranma hit me with everything he had, yet I wanted stop. Every finishing move Ranma had in his arsenal, I reversed them and kept going. No one saw me putting up the fight that I did, but unfortunately it wasn’t a pin fall or submission match. In the center of the ring was a pit with glass shards, all the winner had to do was throw his opponent in the pit. Ranma won after my body fell helplessly into the pit, leaving my body permanently scared.”
I run my hand across my chest once again.
“I plan on writing a few wrongs when it comes to Wrestlewars this year. Once again, I am in a title match on the biggest stage of them all, and this year I plan on leaving with that title around my waist. I don’t care who I face in the tournament, it doesn’t really matter. When everything is said, and done I will reach the ladder match later in the night, I will climb that ladder and retrieve that belt. Sure, I am still Nick Ryan, the same guy who was the Chairman of the Fax and was denied sandwiches. Those were two of the lowest points in my career, but I have still been a part of more Wrestlewars main events than anyone in the tournament, aside from maybe Kyle Shane. You can absolutely talk shit, but choose your words wisely.”
I take one last puff from my cigar, before putting it out in the ashtray.
“A wise man once said…Every time they think they have the answer…I change the question. I feel that is kind of fitting with my new mindset. People should not know what to expect when stepping in the ring with me. The one thing that will always stay the same…. One Redline is All I Need!”

Without notice the ladder gives out sending both men crashing into the double stacked tables on the outside of the ring. The sold out crowd has gone completely silent as the referee looks on unsure of what to do. Quickly the referee calls for the emergency medical team backstage.
Diamond: Oh my god, Flash!! Both men are down and are not moving. This does not look good.
Rotten: What was your first clue, Diamond?? The shattered bodies, or the splintered wood?? SOMEBODY HELP THE CHAMP!!
Diamond: Someone help them both!!
The referee has no choice but to begin the standing ten count.
ONE.....TWO....THREE......FOUR....
Rotten: They’re dead… THEY’RE DEAD!!!
Diamond: Not funny Flash. Both of their careers could be over. There's no way either man is getting up.
No one in the crowd is making a sound as the Emergency Medical Technicians attend to Nick Ryan and Chris Page. Both of who have yet to move after that fall.
FIVE......SIX.......SEVEN......EIGHT......
Diamond: This is not looking good at all.
Rotten: There is no way either of these warriors can continue. NO... WAY!!!
Diamond: This is NOT the way this should end.
The EMT's begin putting neck collars around both Nick and Page. Nick has finally opened his eyes as has Page.
NINE..........TEN.......

“A month later in Las Vegas, I would capture the WGWF World Heavyweight Championship.”
The building erupts as Nick Ryan pops up at the final second kicking out of High Times!
Diamond: OH MY GOD! Nick Ryan is still in this!
Page is completely shocked and amazed!
Rotten: I give up! This has Match of the Year written all over it! WOW!
A huge NICK chant fills the building as CCP pulls himself to his feet, he challenges the officials count, while his back is turned Nick Ryan begins to stir, he rolls over to his chest, CCP shoves the official back into the ropes, the official shoves CCP right back, the momentum of the shove spins CCP around, Ryan uncoils dropping CCP with a third RedLine! Ryan covers!
Referee: ONE...... TWO...... THREE....
DING....DING...DING....
The building explodes as "Hero" by Skillit begins to rock across the PA system.
Masters: Ladies and Gentleman... the winner of the match... and NEW WGWF WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION... NICK RYAN!!
