6;55 AM
The alarm clock goes off, causing a groan to emerge from Goth’s mouth as he struggles to reach over and turn it off. Inwardly cursing to himself as he had forgotten that he had turned it on for a morning run with Melissa. He places his hand in front of his face, trying to look at the morning light that is shining into his face.
“Rise and shine handsome”
Says Melissa with a giggle in her voice as she slowly tries to pull the bedsheets from his body, causing Goth to let out a groan of futile resistance as he stares at the woman that he had married this summer. Standing there in her track suit, ready to go for her run as she had wanted to get back in ring shape to compete, causing him to let out a sigh of resignation and slowly sits upwards at the edge of the bed. He feels his body ache from a few days ago, where he had competed in a street fight against Joe Montuori and successfully beat him. His feet instinctively pull back from the cold bedroom floor, trying to slowly adjust himself to it as he promises Melissa he would meet up with her shortly after taking a shower. She told him that she would make his breakfast in the meantime as he enters the bathroom. He looks around, his body yearning for a nice hot bath but he decides to hop on into the shower instead as Melissa wouldn’t be too impatient with his morning issues with him waking up. He turns on the shower before taking off his boxers and the sleeveless shirt he was wearing before turning back as he extends his arm to check on the water temperature.
“Just a bit longer now….”
He slowly feels the temperature increase of the water, adding some cold water when the heat starts to increase as he steps inside the shower room. He groans as the water splashes upon his body, coming in contact with the bruises and cuts he endured Sunday. He closes his eyes as he uses his hands to push his hair backwards while savouring the water’s temperature. He thinks back of the entire road of recovery he had gone through as well as the mental and physical abuse both he received and dished out to Joe Montuori. A man that had tried to convince him that he would never be able to beat him, a thought that had crossed Goth’s mind a few times when his recovery seemed so far away. Wondering if it was perhaps his moment to fully retire from Pro Wrestling, but in the end it was his wife that reminded him he was a winner.
“A winner indeed…”
He smirks as he grabs a bottle of shower gel and soaps his entire body with it while the water rinses it off of him once it comes in contact with it. He sighs as he leans against the shower wall while shampooing his hair, enjoying the scent that creeps inside his nose. It’s a moment where all emotions finally become too much for him, slowly lowering himself into a seated position inside the shower as the water continues to splash down upon him. The tears become visible even though it is quickly mixed up with the water of the shower head, letting go all of the anger and frustration he had felt since the attack from Mont that caused him to have his arm and shoulder broken. The rehab, the mental anguish of a man that went as far as bringing his very own dead wife into it all, merely because he wanted to mentally break Goth down. But in the end Goth managed to rebound and hit the Sinful Confessions for the win. A moment that had meant more to him than his many championships that he had won in the past.
He stays there for a few moments, trying to regain his composure as he smiles. A smile of satisfaction for the way he broke down Joe Montuori at the first night of the Cannabis Cup, taking all that Montuori had to offer and dished out some more. He slowly raises himself back to his feet as he stands in front of the shower for a few more moments before turning off the water and reaches out for a towel outside the shower. Using it to dry himself before wrapping another towel around his waist as he gets back into the bedroom and gets dressed. He notices his cell phone vibrating as he has received a message, reaches towards it and reads the message that causes him to smile.
“I guess it’s time for me to shine once more…”
He finishes getting dressed before joining Melissa for a run
*Later that day*
Goth can be seen inside the office of Reverend Jebediah, who had asked him to see him as soon as possible. The reverend is standing in front of a bookshelf before turning around and stares at Goth with a disappointed look on his face.
“My brother Gerrit, a few weeks ago I was asked to do an intervention upon your part. An intervention because of the concerns for your violent ways as of late, where you promised me something. Do you remember that promise??”
He looks at Goth with a stern stare on his face, their eyes meet for a few moments before he lets out a sigh as he shakes his head.
“Of course you do remember, you promised me to not allow sinful thoughts dominate your actions upon another man. Yet it is clear to me that you have lied, the only question I got for you is why??”
The two men stare at each other in silence, Jebediah anticipating an answer from Goth that is seemingly not coming. We see Goth lower his gaze towards his jacket, undoing the buttons as it falls down besides his waist as it reveals a nice white buttoned down shirt. He runs his fingers across the soft fabric with his fingers, allowing us to notice the wedding ring that he is wearing. The red ruby shines in the light of the office lamps as Goth’s gaze returns towards Jebediah, showing a look of non-concern.
“I did what I had to do Jebediah…, something you probably do not understand.”
Goth says without showing any sign of remorse, accentuating this with a sinister smirk upon his face as he notices the sadness upon the face of the Reverend. Who turns his attention away from Góth and walks over towards his office desk, grabbing a can of water before turning his attention towards Goth as he holds a glass in his hands. Goth nods his head in acceptance as Jebediah pours some water in the glass for Góth before doing the same for himself. He walks over towards the office window, his shoes causes a squeaking sound on the laminate flooring. He places the palms of his hands upon the window frame while staring towards the sky outside before he responds.
“You did what you had to do, interesting response Gerrit. You apparently had to fight fire with fire??”
He responds before turning around, leaning his hands once more against the window frame as he leans back against the window. His eyes are staring back at Goth with a confused look.
“Ever thought about asking me to join you in a prayer? Asking our Lord to forgive this…”
Jebediah pulls out a note out of his back pocket of his jacket, staring at it before turning his attention back towards Goth.
“Joe Montuori??”
The words angers Goth, an answer he usually would be able to live with under normal circumstances. But this was Joe Montuori we were talking about, the man that went to the grave of his deceased wife and urinated upon her grave. A thought that still angered him just by thinking about it as he grips the armrests of the chair he was sitting in, scratching his nails against the fabric as he grinds his teeth.
“Are you seriously defending that snake Joe Montuori Jebediah??”
The thought alone causes his anger to boil over, realizing how conflicted he is between his believes opposing the love he shares for his first and current wife. Wondering whether this is just another challenge from the Lord above to take responsibilities for his actions. He clearly knew he was wrong, but it still felt so good.
“I…..”
He hesitates, he knew exactly what to say. But unsure how Jebediah would respond to it. Unsure whether he would believe him, he even is unsure whether he actually would believe himself if he was in Jebediah’s shoes. His right eye starts to twitch, a reaction he started to notice every time he was morally questioning his actions or merely having sinful thoughts. His eyes wander across the room, searching for a better answer to extend to Jebediah before his eyes meet up with Jebediah’s as he sighs and lowers his head.
“I know I was wrong, I was consumed with rage and…. “
He feels the glow of shame emerge upon his face, the feeling caused him to hate himself even more. The conflicted sensations of the yearning that he had for months to punish Joe Montuori had clearly overwon his fears to sin. He slowly places his hands to his face, allowing the tears to come in contact with the palms of his hands. For the first time in quite some time the shame had won over his mind. The moment seems to take ages, while in reality it was only a few seconds before he suddenly feels the hands of Jebediah grab hold of his shoulders. Only to move them towards the back of his head as he pulls Goth towards him as Goth wraps his arms around the reverend’s waist and whispers for forgiveness for his behaviour.
“I know my friend, we often believe that we are prepared for the trials of life…. Only to come to the conclusion that we are further away from redemption with every step that we make.”
The two men continue to share an embrace as Góth’s conflicted emotions slowly start to subside, realizing that the situation between him and Joe Montuori has finally come to a conclusion. He inhales deeply before finally pulling away and stares into the reverend’s eyes with a smile upon his face.
“Thank you Jebediah….”
With that the two men return the embrace as the shot slowly fades.
*I am much like you were*
The shot opens up with Goth’s cell phone upon a table, the camera zoom in on the phone as the screen shows a text message that Goth has received from Monday Night Brawl’s General Manager Candice Page, congratulating him with winning day one of the Cannabis Cup and welcoming him to the brand. But the primary content of the message is telling him that he will be competing in the next Brawl’s Main Event in a number one contender match against Mac Bane.
“A number one contender match against my brother Mac Bane…”
Is what we hear Goth say as we see his hand extend itself towards the cell phone and grabs it as he pulls it towards him, he looks at it for a final time before placing it back upon the table.
“The funny thing is that I thought it was a joke the first time I read this message, but reality quickly sat in. Making me aware that if you want to reach the top, that you need to shed every possible weight that may hold you down.”
The camera slowly turns towards Goth, standing in front of a Baptism Fountain bare chested. His hair is pulled back in a tail with his hands closed in front of him. We see Reverend Jebediah stand in the far end of the shot of the camera, gazing at Goth with a look of concern etched upon his face. Goth’s gaze turns towards the reverend for a few seconds before turning his attention back towards the camera as he spreads his arms and pushes his head back just like Jesus upon the cross.
“Please allow me to welcome you to my baptism.”
He cocks his head sideways, leaning upon his right shoulder as his eyes are closed and a smile emerges upon his face. His fingers slowly extend upon both hands as if he is reaching out for something to grab before looking up into the camera with a sickening smile.
“Before you wonder, yes I have been baptised after birth. So don’t confuse yourself that I am either enter religion or change it, I’m doing this to prove a point.”
He runs his left hand across his right arm, caressing it tenderly while his eyes follow every movement that he is making before letting his hand caress his chin for a few moments as he turns his attention back towards the camera.
“We baptise our children after birth, because aren’t we taught that they are born in this world as a sinful person?? No matter how cute and innocent they are, nobody will escape the bane of Adam and Eve. And yet, I am willing to extend you both hands in order be given the opportunity to alter your future… Yet, I am not going to do that willingly. You have to prove that you deserve it… Even if you are my brethren.”
His hands extends behind his head as he undoes the tail, allowing his hair to fall loose behind his back as he shakes his head as that causes his hair to fall down across his shoulders.
“I willingly allowed myself to be shamed, I willingly allowed myself to hate. Hell, I even allowed myself to be a liar to THAT MAN!!”
He turns his attention towards the reverend, staring back at the man who remains silent, walking towards the other side of the fountain as he pours the water into the fountain while Goth watched his every single movement. Goth turns his gaze towards the water and nods his head before turning his attention back to the camera.
“And why did I do that?? Obviously the selfish nature of pride as a man, as a husband and a father HAD to be defended. Because one single individual dared to make me question myself, even if it was for one damn second. And you all may ask yourself what does a second mean Goth?? When it came down to my deceased wife’s ashes being thrown across my body at the Cannabis Cup… it seemed like an eternity!! So don’t start questioning me doubting for that one single moment okay??”
“That’s why I am taking this opportunity to prove a point to you the fans, you the wrestling community… and even YOU my brother. Because I cannot make an exception for one over the other, even though I do love you my brother. And that means it will hurt me the most to do so, but the notion that I know you will thank me afterwards will be worth it for me to go through it all over again like against Joe Montuori.”
He turns his attention towards the fountain, places both hands on the edge of it before gently sinking his finger tips into the cold water. This causes his body to tense up before letting out a sigh as he pulls his fingers out of the water and let them touch his mouth.
“And the obvious question is why isn’t it Mac? Why would I put you through the same punishment that I put Montuori through when I tell the world I love you, I gladly explain why my friend. Because why wouldn’t I?? Aren’t you the man that has been destined for greatness everywhere you go?? Inducted into the SCW Hall of Fame, an distinguished honour that you have deserved my friend. But you entered the Cannabis Cup in order to be in contention for either Peter Vaughns or Enigma’s WGWF world heavyweight title… And what happened my friend??”
His eyes turn towards the camera as he lifts his eyebrow in a questionable fashion, letting out a sigh before shaking his head.
“Cholo happened, the WGWF Intercontinental champion beat you, that in itself is frustrating isn’t it?? But then to have to watch the same man win the whole Cup and become the NEW WGWF world heavyweight champion?? That must have made you question yourself whether you have done exactly everything that you could have done to accomplish that feat??.”
“And I am willing to extend my hand, I am willing to give you that opportunity. But you have to go through me my brother, the question is… are you??? Because the Mac Bane that I once knew was the first one that I would have pulled beside me without a moment of doubt. But like you told the world during our six man tag, I have changed haven’t I??”
He turns his head towards the reverend, nods it as he slowly bends down upon his knees as the reverend makes bowl with his hands as he places his hand into the cold water before splashing them across the forehead. He mutters something in a whisper, completely incapable to be picked up by the microphone as he moves his hand across the forehead of Goth in the shape of the cross. He then slowly backs off as Goth remains seated, allowing the water to drip across his face before reopening his eyes.
“I have been forgiven for my sins at the Cup, yet I need to continue upon this road Mac. I have tasted the sinful desire of success and to clench that thirst and hunger that is brewing inside of me, I need to clench it with being the one that WILL do what YOU were unable to do my friend. Do I think less of you?? Of course not, but I have to make you realize yourself. Because YOU WILL NOT give in to. You saw what I did to Mac Bane haven’t you?? Don’t think that that urge that was brewing inside of me has fled me my brother, I still need to undo the wrong that has done to me!! And I need to lead this company to greater things, to be recognized as the very best. A task you once shared didn’t you??”
“I look at you and I can read the doubt upon your frown, because just like Joe Montuori you showed a weakness. For him it was the weakness of wanting to be the ULTIMATE GOD, while you?? You merely lost track of your believes. You no longer had faith in HIM, HE who would guide you to the promised land. And that weakness I MUST eradicate from YOUR MIND. And I must hurt you before I can heal you.”
He gazes back upon the reverend, who places the towel upon his forehead and wipes off the last remaining drops of water from him. The man walks off as Goth closes his hands in order to say a little prayer before turning his attention back upon the camera.
“Don’t doubt my words Mac, because the disbelief was the downfall of Sodom and Gomorra that was Joe Montuori. I had warned him many times my brother, but did he listen?? NO!! Except this time the inevitable won’t last six months… Your healing will take place one week from Monday. Where I will humble you, because if Joe Montuori’s antics cannot break me, what chances do you think have against me?? ME!!! You see Mac, I will be the first to admit that prior to my injuries that I have done well… But I never even came close to the potential that I exhibited at the CUP. That win freed me from the restrictions that I put on myself, the same restrictions that you have told many of times that I needed to let go. And now you are about to witness the monster that you have wanted me to become, no longer are you the dominant force Mac. Because you are my John the Baptist to my entity as the Messiah of Pain.”
“Many take these Biblical references as nothing more than a gimmick, but you know better don’t you Mac?? You watched in the back, sat in awe of how I destroyed the hopes of one fool. Realizing that once we get inside that same squared circle that the outcome will be the same. We both have the same goal in mind don’t we? But only one can move on and have that opportunity to take the championship belt home as a trophy, a price. The recognition of being the very best in this company”
“Really Mac?? Is that all??”
He shows a sinister smile upon his lips as Goth shakes his head no, his hands slowly close into fists as we see his muscles tense and the veins nearly pop out of his arms, his breathing increases as the intensity increases.
“To me it is the confirmation WHY I have become what I am today, to me it is the confirmation of why I have failed in recent months, hell even years. To me it is the proof that I have thrown away THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE!!!”
The look on his face darkens, his hands reach towards the back pocket of his pants as he pulls out his mask and drags it over his face and inhales deeply.
“Three years since that night when I beat then World Champion Mark “The Dragon” Cross, a name all too familiar in this company along many others isn’t he?? Being the one that opened my mouth in order to be noticed, opened my mouth to get what I deserved… While I needed to TAKE IT!! And this coming Monday Night Brawl, I am going to take what is PROPHECISED to be my DESTINY!! You already had your opportunity to be the first ever to pin or make Cholo submit Mac… And you failed, YOU FAILED!!! But that will all come to an end, because like I said before. YOU are nothing more than John The Baptist, the prelude to WHAT was destined to happen. And I shall not fail, I cannot fail. And I will look you in the eyes at every passing moment in our match. I will not give in, I will not allow you to pin me or make me submit my brother. Because the Cannabis Cup was the moment that every wrestler in both Brawl and Smash brands eyes were opened!!! Where I truly hurt someone in order to heal him. You are going to be number two Mac, you will be the first one in line that will turn into a believer and stand by my side.”
He looks at Jebediah and nods his head as the reverend grabs the fountain and walks off as Goth turns his head back towards the camera.
“I will bring the Fountain with me Mac, I will wash your sins away and make you mine. And don’t feel lonely my friend, because you are with family… I love you my brother, but not even you can stop me from achieving my destiny…. To be the one….”
With that Goth walks off as he follows the reverend who was standing in the doorway before exiting as the shot slowly fades.
