It’s been 13 days since Xavier Lux last competed, entering himself in IIW’s Ice Crown rumble event… But if you want to look back at the last time he competed in a match of his own, then you have to go back 46 days, to XWF’s November pay-per-view: Bad Medicine. Though that match was a three-way dance for their Hardcore championship, so not exactly singles, but you get what we are getting at. It’s been a minute since he has competed and if you really want to know when his last singles match was, well you have to go back to November 17th, where he lost to “Ruby” in a number one contender’s match for the Anarchy Championship, also in XWF. You probably have figured out that Xavier finished 2022 in quite the losing streak. You add those two losses to not winning the IIW Rumble, and also not winning the World Series of Wrestling, finishing fourth there, and well, you, like Xavier, are asking the same question...
Xavier:How can anyone consider me their hero?
It’s night time, he sits on the back of his black Hummer, wearing his usual casual clothes and a half-finished bottle of Fireball Whiskey by his side; also, a casual sight. The Hummer is parked so the back of it is overlooking a cliff somewhere in the hills of Los Angeles, the city Xavier calls home. On his hands he holds an iPad, with the Safari application opened to the CCPE vs. The World Super Show Page. He has scrolled down to the section where his match vs. Jack Sullivan is highlighted.
Xavier:You are definitely not the Jack Sullivan I remember.
Xavier refers to her father, a former wrestler he never had the pleasure of squaring off against, but also a promoter, and owner of the place where “Venom” made his name and won his first World Championship: New Legends of Wrestling. Won it three times as a matter of fact, and he also won two major tournaments that led to said championship.
Xavier:Yeah, I remember your father, we might have not always seen eye to eye, but I owe that man a lot, he gave me my start and what so far has been the best three years of my wrestling career. That feels like forever ago, you were just a baby… and I’m your hero?
He runs his thumb through her face, as he admires how young she is and wonders if he may have a daughter himself out there he doesn’t know about. He quickly puts that thought out of his mind.
Xavier: Nah, I’m not my father.
Of course he speaks of OCW legend and Hall of Famer, “Scorpion”. He was Xavier’s hero growing up, the reason he wanted to, and did, become a wrestler. Xavier was a few years older than Jack is now, when he found out his hero was his real-life father, and not only did he not know Xavier existed, but it didn’t stop him from trying to murder him. That is a long story, one that has been covered extensively, most recently at the WSOW… But the short story is…
Xavier: Don’t meet your heroes kids, they may not try to kill you like mine did, but they will definitely disappoint you.
He puts the iPad to the side and then grabs the bottle of fireball, pops it open and drinks a generous amount. He then hops off the back of his Hummer and walks to the edge of the cliff and looks at the city below, the lights spreading as far as the eye can see. He drinks some more whiskey before his mobile phone rings, he smiles as he sees who it is. He answers the call, putting it on speaker phone.
Xavier: Mr. Page, to what do I owe the honor of this call sir?
“Chronic” Chris Page: Cut the sir shit man, you know better than that.
Xavier: Alright man, what’s up?
Chris: Got a minute to talk about this little match of yours at my show?
Xavier: Little?
Chris: Well, you know what I mean… You’re practically wrestling a kid. Of all the high profile matches you could have had, you choose to face a rookie? We’re CCPE Lux, not Make-a-Wish.
Xavier laughs.
Xavier: Yeah I know man, that’s one way of looking at it, but not the way I am looking at it.
Chris:Then how are you looking at it? Wait, let me guess. You chose a young lioness so you could get the easy win, get the points for CCPE and ensure you are in the main event match-up so you help us win right?
Xavier: Look how you sound Chris, you know we don’t roll like that man.
Chris: I know man, I’m just goofing. So tell me why you did pick her?
Xavier takes a moment before answering, could be that he doesn’t know the answer himself, or maybe he is trying to convince himself that the reason he chose is the right one. He sighs deeply and finally answers.
Xavier: Well, the honest to God truth is that I was supposed to face Shane Donovan, the guy who trained her without her father knowing. I guess senior didn’t want her to be a wrestler but her mom was all for it, she just had to finish high school first. Gotta love moms who support their kids’ dreams. Mine supported me from the moment I said I wanted to be a wrestler… I was six years old! Not sure why senior wouldn’t want his only child to be a wrestler, but I’m sure he had his reasons. Anyway, some things came up for Shane and then Jack started tweeting at me about how I was her hero and how she would go to the shows and watch me wrestle. She then kept texting me and calling, got a bit annoying really, but the kid is persistent, and she made some good points on why I should face her instead of Shane. One thing led to another, and I decided to give her the “dream match” she wanted. But I guess if I’m honest with myself, it was to give a young star coming up in the business the opportunity I never got, to face my hero in the ring one on one. I often wondered how things would have turned out if I met Scorpion in the ring and not in real life. How things would have turned out if we exchanged wrestling holds instead of bullets.
Chris: Jesus Christ dude.
Xavier: I know, it’s fucked up but it’s in the past. My dream match was real life nightmare, but I’ve promised to never be like my father and this is a good starting point. So I know it’s not the sexiest of matches when you think CCPE vs. The World, but it is a match for all the right reasons and if you ask me, it is a welcomed change. Not everything in wrestling has to be about hating your opponent’s guts and doing promos where you are verbally raping them from beginning to end. If anything, it shows how dynamic and diverse CCPE really is.
Chris: Oh I know it brotha, just like I knew the minute I talked to you about this match you would make me see why this match is right for this event. Really looking forward to it now.
Xavier: Thanks, and don’t worry, if I make it to that finals match, I will definitely be taking people’s heads off for ya to ensure Team CCPE wins.
Chris: That’s what I’m talking about. Alright Lux, I’ll let you get back to it, got a million things to do.
Xavier: I don’t know how you do it Chronic, but I appreciate the call. I’ll see ya later.
Chris: You bet.
The call is ended, and Xavier takes a deep breath again and then chuckles.
Xavier: We’re not Make-a-Wish huh? Good line.
Xavier’s phone goes off again and he picks it up and looking at the notification he sees that it is an alert from his security system at his home. He opens the app and checks the alert, something about there being a brake-in. He clicks on the live video feed and it seems it is raining there, making it hard to see but he can make out two people who seem to have gotten past the main gate and are at his main door, looking in and trying to find a way to get in.
Xavier: You know, I was hoping not to deal with any kind of bullshit tonight but clearly these two assholes had other ideas.
He clicks a button that alerts the authorities and then he stands up and makes his way back to his hummer, not before finishing his bottle of Fireball and throwing the empty bottle down the cliff. Remember kids, don’t litter, and definitely do not drink and drive like this man is about to do. He grabs the iPad, gets inside the Hummer, turns it on and drives away shortly after. While driving home, he gets a call from the "Del Monte" Police Department, they being the closest to where his home was and the ones that answered the call. He answers it using the car’s phone system.
Xavier: This is Lux.
Officer: Hi Mr. Lux, this is officer Ramirez with the Del Monte Police department. Just wanted to let you know we apprehended the two people who broke into your home and are holding them here at the precinct.
Xavier: Nicely done officer.
Officer: Thank you, we wanted you to come down briefly, just to ID the two individuals and share the footage from your security system, decide if you want to press charges, and sign some documents.
Xavier: Yeah sure no problem, I’ll be there in a few.
Officer: Thank you sir.
Xavier: Thank you.
He hangs up the call and makes an abrupt U turn, heading for the police department. Once he arrives, he walks up the stone steps leading up to your very standard looking police department. He walks past tonight’s menu of detainees and heads up to the front desk where he tells the officer on duty what he is there for. Once they confirm his identity officer Ramirez is called, and he arrives shortly after and quickly shakes Lux’s hand.
Officer: Thank you for coming.
Xavier: Yeah, no problem. So who are they? Couple of young kids having some fun or do we have some legit burglars? Or are they wrestling fans who don’t know when to stop being marks?
The officer gives him a weird look.
Officer: Definitely not the first two, and I’m not sure what you are talking about on the third one there. One of them is a boy, but I don’t think his name is Mark.
Xavier: Never mind, after you.
Xavier motions for the officer to lead the way but the officer shakes his head.
Officer:Actually, before we go there, I wanted to prepare you.
Xavier: Prepare me? For what? What do you mean?
Officer: Well, the other person is a young woman, late twenties. The boy is about ten years old… They say they know you, and that you are-
Xavier: Nope… No… I’m going to stop you right there… Lies.
Officer:Sir, please let me finish…
Xavier: No god damn it! I am not my father! I am not about to go through the same shit all over again except that this time I am the Scorpion. I don’t fuck around… I am not about to have some woman come in to my life telling me I have a son. No, that’s not me! I am not him! I'm not! I'm..
Officer: Sir, please calm down! Sir… Sir? Oh shit!
Xavier’s world starts to turn and before he knows it he falls on his ass and faints. That’s right, the “man with venom in his veins” just fainted.
To be Continued…
