“Z, are you sure you don’t want me to go to Vegas with you for Brawl on Monday? I didn’t go to the last couple of WGWF shows with you, including your debut.”
Zara gave her cousin a smile as she shook her head a little. She appreciated her cousin wanting to do her job as her manager, but she wasn’t worried about Marley going with her. She had just decided to stop and see her for a day before heading out to the show.
“I’ll be fine, Mar. You’re acting as if I haven’t been to shows I’m booked for alone before. It’s not a big deal…besides, I know you’re heading to London tomorrow to be at WrestleWar with me. It’s the last NFW show for the year, and with the Queens going for titles, I know you’ll be there which is what matters to me. I just wanted to stop in and see y’all before I headed to Vegas. So how is the engaged life treating you?”
“Well I’ve gotten a million calls from the family, but that shouldn’t surprise you with knowing how they are. Other than that, life hasn’t been much different, Zara. We’re not starting any planning yet, there’s other things that are more important to focus on right now…you know that.”
Zara nodded in understanding. Work wise, they didn’t have a lot going on other than having to go to London in a few days and Zara having Brawl on Monday, but there was a lot going on family wise that took precedence over anything else for her cousin and her cousin’s fiance. She gave Marley a reassuring smile as well as a nod though before she could say anything else, she felt little claws digging into her foot. Glancing down with a light laugh, Zara leaned over and picked up a fluffy, orange tabby kitten. She knew her cousin had adopted a new kitten, but she figured the little guy would be hiding away with Samara.
“Well hello, you little fluff ball. Nice to meet you, Krueger…good to see Samara hasn’t laid into you too much for annoying her old ass.”
“Oh stop that…you know she’s a sweetheart. She just likes her alone time too. She’s actually been really good with the little guy, even letting him snuggle with her when he’s not snoozing in the middle of Samuel and I’s bed like he owns it.”
Zara laughed a little as the kitten began walking around on her chest and shoulders, purring and nuzzling against her face as he did. Although her nose twitched a little when he ran his tail across it, tickling it a little. Much like a momma cat would do, she scruffed him and picked him up off of her shoulder, choosing to cradle the little guy against her instead.
“He’s definitely a love bug. It’s a shame no one had adopted him yet, but I’m glad y’all did. You’re starting to get a little zoo going though. Are you going to get Circe a friend next?”
“No…3 is certainly enough for now, especially after shows start up again. I’m lucky to have found somewhere that will house them while we’re gone as it is because of Circe. Not many places want to handle a snake, after all.”
Zara nodded again…many people weren’t snake people, after all, so she wasn’t too surprised. She glanced down at the kitten that was still in her arm and grinned a little when she saw that the little guy had fallen asleep. The green-haired woman chuckled before she passed the little guy to her cousin, smiling as she watched him curl up in Marley’s lap only to go back to sleep.
“Little guy doesn’t have a bad idea. It is getting late, and I’ve got a flight with Kayfabe Airlines to catch in a bit. I’ll see you Tuesday morning before the show because I’ll be getting in super late Monday night after I’m done with Brawl. The others already know they won’t see me until we’re at the arena for the show Tuesday.”
“Alright…I’ll see you Tuesday then. And good luck against Atara on Monday. She’s definitely skilled in the ring.”
Zara nodded as she stood up, squeezing her cousin’s shoulder before she made her way out of the living room where they had been sitting for the majority of the evening. She saw Samuel coming down the hallway, so she waved bye to him before she made it to the front door, gently closing it behind her before she made her way to her rental. Thankfully, it wasn’t too long of a drive to the small, local airport, so she wasn’t rushed time wise.

A loss and a win in WGWF…it wasn’t a bad start in Zara’s mind, but of course that was only the beginning for her. Everywhere she had signed, she had managed to shine in one way or another. When it came to Brawl, she had a chance from the beginning, but Cholo had outshined her that night, simple as that. Now that wasn’t to say that she didn’t still have her eyes set on gold in WGWF eventually. She was sure it would come in due time; she wasn’t in a big rush for it. Of course, she had appreciated the opportunity they had given her during her debut, but it obviously wasn’t her time for it to happen yet. The young woman was backstage in the arena, leaning against an equipment box like she had come to find herself doing quite often when she was waiting for her match.
“One and one isn’t bad for starting out in a new, to me, company. Would I want it to be Two and zero? Of course, who wouldn’t want to be undefeated? But Cholo got the best of me in my debut. Then my next match on Dark, I kicked some ass and won. Tonight, I go against Atara Raven.”
Zara paused and licked her lips a little before she pushed a few strands of loose hair from her face. She pushed off from the equipment crate and let out a small sigh.
“You know…I’m looking forward to this match. How many people would honestly say they’re looking forward to facing their general manager’s wife in a match? If the person knows them on a personal level then I could see that, but coming from someone that’s not in that situation? I don’t see many people being honest about it.”
Zara paused again before giving a little shrug, a grin on her face as she did.
“However, that’s not who I am. I’m going to speak my mind, whether it’s a popular opinion or not. Some may not exactly like that, but I don’t really give a damn about it either way. You can like me or hate me for it…it caused fights when I was a teenager, and it causes them even now, but it is what it is.”
The Filipino woman began stretching her arms out to get loosened up for the match against Atara. Granted, she had already stretched earlier in the evening, but it never hurt to make sure you were still ready to go when it came to getting in a ring…especially when going against veterans of the business.
“I haven’t been in a professional ring as long as you have, Atara. It seems like most in WGWF have that one on me, and I’m not afraid to admit that to anyone. But that doesn’t mean you have more heart and soul than I do…not to say that you don’t, of course. It seems like you have to have some in order to make it anywhere in this business, but it doesn’t always get you anywhere. The last few months of my first year in the professional rings, I’ve been lucky enough that it HAS gotten me somewhere.”
The green-haired woman licked her lips again, a small nod coming from her. Another light sigh came from her as she listened to the echoing cheers from the Brawl audience before a grin came to her face once more.
“Tonight is another chance for me to prove that hiring me wasn’t a mistake. I know that a lot of worth was placed in me to have had the opportunity I was given at my debut, and that is something that I’ll always be thankful for. But tonight is about showing that trust and worth wasn’t misplaced. Now whether that comes from putting on an amazing match and beating you, Atara, or putting on an amazing match and losing, I’ll be happy either way. The fans get an amazing match, and I get to go against a great in-ring competitor.”
Zara looked down the hallway for a moment before looking back at the little camera that had been set up for her impromptu time on it.
“No matter what happens out there tonight, Atara, just know that I’m honored to share the ring with you for the first time. Hopefully it won’t be the last time that it happens, but it’s time for Chaos to rain down. I’ll see you out there.”
Zara grinned and winked at the camera before reaching over to shut it off, only to head down the hallway. It was going to be time for her to head out to the ring soon, and she needed to make sure she was where she needed to be.
Zara gave her cousin a smile as she shook her head a little. She appreciated her cousin wanting to do her job as her manager, but she wasn’t worried about Marley going with her. She had just decided to stop and see her for a day before heading out to the show.
