Bio: Born and raised in Staten Island, expectations of success were placed on Joseph Buongiorno the moment he came out of the womb. Rumor has it he didn’t even cry when he was born in the delivery room at Staten Island University Hospital, so Joey has been chill and relax under pressure from birth.
From day one, greatness was expected and failure was NOT an option. As a three-sport athlete in high school, Buongiorno was the starting QB for three consecutive Class 1 football championships at William Floyd (2005-2007), as well as a standout middleweight on the wrestling team and first baseman on the baseball team. But despite all of the athletic skills he displayed in his formative years, particular in football where he received numerous Division 1 scholarship offers, Joey decided to stay close to home and focus on his amateur wrestling at Mercyhurst University, a Division 2 school in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Buongiorno would go on to become an All American honorable mention as a sophomore while reaching the quarterfinals on the NCAA Championships, before eventually being named a full fledged All American his final two years, reaching the National Championship both years and winning his senior year. Joey was considering a push for the US Olympic Trials in June 2012 right after his graduation from college, but his childhood love for professional wrestling came back into his life as he checked out as many Indy wrestling shows as he possibly could while attending college and started working out with a few talents during his summers back home in Staten Island.
In the final weeks of his senior year at Mercyhurst, Buongiorno was approached multiple times by his newly found pro wrestling friends about getting into training with them, before eventually giving in days after graduating and enrolling at The Monster Factory. Despite the fact he had a natural transition into working a full time executive position within his family’s Italian imports business, Joey decided to move forward with his wrestling training and work his way up from the bottom of the barrel.
Joseph would earn the nickname Ace early in his training at The Monster Factory, due to how quick he was able to transition his amateur wrestling talent into the squared circle, as well as exude a natural charisma that is hard to find in most talents. However, due to some bad luck with injuries and family tragedies, the first five years out of college didn’t allow for Joey to take on the large amount of bookings that are typically necessary for a rookie to get the experience to further develop their skills to move up in the business.
The year 2018 would be the first time Buongiorno was able to work a full calendar of bookings, gradually earning respect and credibility from his peers for his work in the ring and on the microphone. All of the hard work and patience from Ace finally paid off in Spring of 2022, when he took a shot in the dark and met with WGWF management about potentially getting a spot on the singles roster. And well… here we are, and Joey is ready to go for the top spot!!
