WGWF Studios.
We fade in from black to two empty chairs on an interview set. There is some commotion in the background as the camera pans over to the right where we see a member of the production crew putting a microphone on the suit jacket of one Flash Rotten; WGWF Commentator. While he is being set up, we can hear him talking to the production crew member.
Flash: You sure he’s coming?
Member: Yes sir. We just got word that he’s in the building and will be here in about a minute or so.
Flash: Great. I didn’t think he’d actually make it. When will we be ready?
Member: All we need is to hook him up to a mic and you’ll be good to go sir.
Flash: Excellent. Thank you.
Within a matter of seconds, in walks none other than Hall of Famer Famine of the Vile. Who has agreed to one final interview before his final match this coming Monday. Famine walks over to Flash and stands right in front of him. Flash looks a bit worried but then Famine extends his hand out and smiles.
Famine: Why so serious Flash?
Flash: History.
Famine: That’s in the past man. You know if I wanted to hurt you I would
Flash: Yeah, I know. Look, thank you for coming out to do this. Like I said, history.
Famine: I know. We’re about to make it one more time. We ready to do this?
Flash: Yeah, just sit right here and they’ll hook the mic up so we can get started.
Famine sits over to the left of Flash as the production member sets up the mic on Famine’s shirt. About thirty seconds to a minute later, they are ready to go.
Flash: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us on this special edition of WGWF Backstage. I’m Flash Rotten and with me is the legendary Famine of the Vile. Hall of Famer, multi-time champion and all around badass!
Famine: Thank you for that Flash. I appreciate it.
Flash: Before we begin, let me just say that over the years you and I have had our history in and out of the ring. Tonight however, I am here to not only tell you that you have always had my respect, but I honestly believe that this company would not have been the same had you not been in it.
Famine: That’s very humbling Flash. Thank you for that.
Flash: Let’s get right down to business shall we?
Famine: Go for it!
Flash: Where have you been since we last saw you?
Famine: Back home in Orlando. After Brendan died I went into a deep depression and just didn’t know what to do with my life. I didn’t want to talk or see anyone for a long time. Not friends, not family, not anyone. After a year I decided to open up a wrestling school and have been doing that since. I thought if I’m not going to be in the ring, I might as well teach the next generation how to get into this business the right way. Where they go after they graduate is on them, but I make sure they realize that this isn’t a game you play on your console. This is real life and if you go about it the wrong way, you’re not going to last very long.
Flash: I was sorry to hear about your sons passing. I think we all were. For those of you who don’t know, Brendan Fields aka Soul Bearer, was Famine’s son. He passed away four years ago this coming April in a car accident in Binghamton, New York where he was working with a local wrestling company at the time. It was a huge loss not only for Famine and his family but for the wrestling community as well. After four years, has it gotten easier?
Famine: It never gets easier Flash. The pain lingers on but you just have to think of the good times rather than the bad. You can’t focus on how much it hurts that the person you love is no longer with you. As an Agnostic, I can’t say he’s with god or anything like that because I don’t believe any of that. I just know that he is at peace and when it’s my time to go, maybe I’ll see him again. The only thing I can do right now and have done since he passed is keep moving forward.
Flash: Let’s talk about your storied career if you don’t mind. You started in XWF back in 2005. After building your career there, you made your way here to WGWF and took the company from humble beginnings to mega company in a year. Your rivalries across both companies are the stuff of legend and one of the biggest rivalries of all time was between you and CCP. Outside of this business, you two are the best of friends. Inside is a whole other story and will forever be known as the feud that lit the fire for WGWF to take off to new heights and sold out stadiums. What was it like working with Page?
Famine: Chris is one fucking phenomenal wrestler and friend. He and I have torn the house down on more than one occasion and left it all in the ring. We both understand this business better than most and understand it’s more than flashing lights, the cheer of the crowds and the fame. It’s about putting your heart and soul into it and giving it everything. Blood, sweat, tears and broken bones which we’ve both done time and again. The guys in the business now only care about the former not the latter.
Flash: Is there anyone you did or didn’t get along with?
Famine: Well, as far as people I liked and became great friends with on and off the road I’d have to say the Ryan brothers, Bigg Rigg, Ranma Saotome and T-Money. Although I lost touch with T-Money a very long time ago so I don’t know how he is or where. I was also friends with Hardcore Smitty and his crazy friend Outsider Stone but lost touch with them as well.
Flash: You’re not getting off that easy. Come on, who did you not like?
Famine: You’re just gonna make me say it huh? Well, at the top of that list would have to be Dante Anglais. That piece of shit could get hit by a bus today and I wouldn’t shed a tear. I’d go to his funeral and spit not only on him but on his grave as well. Miyoko Kawashima is another one. That crazy bitch either has bi-polar disorder or she’s just fucking crazy! Sorry for the language but that’s the only way I can describe those two. There were a few others I wasn’t fond of but we managed to work together and leave it at that.
Flash: I’d say tell us how you really feel but you just did. Is there anyone you regret not having a match with?
Flash: Ranma. That guy is not only one of my good friends and cigar buddies but one of the most enigmatic and amazing wrestlers to ever set foot in the ring. Had I gotten the chance to face him, it would have been unforgettable. There’s a few others as well but it’s too late for that now. We’ll just fight over which cigar is better than the other.
Flash: Let’s talk about this coming Monday. Chris Page has put together a one night only event featuring WGWF stars as a final farewell. You have a match against MDK. How does it feel knowing you’re coming back for one last time and will you be coming out as yourself or will the Demon King make his final appearance?
Famine: You know Flash, I’ve been thinking about that for about two weeks now. I mean Page approached me about having one last match months ago but it’s just starting to dawn on me that the only way to go out is the same way I came in. So yes, the Demon King will be making his final appearance. As for MDK, I hope he’s ready because I’m going to leave it all in the ring which means I’m going to throw caution to the wind and say fuck it! There’s no reason to get in that ring one last time if I’m not going to give it my all. Even at this age I feel better than ever and I’m not coming to lose.
Flash: I’m looking forward to not only calling your match but the others as well and it will be an honor for me to be there to see you one last time.
Famine: I expect you to call like you always have Flash. I’d like to return the favor and say that out of all of the commentators in this business, you have never been a liar when it comes to how you feel about what’s going on in the ring. You call it like you see it whether you like us or not and I respect and appreciate that. So thank you.
Flash: Thank you Famine. Coming from you, that means a lot. Thank you for everything you’ve done in and out of that ring.
Famine: Thank you
Flash: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for taking the time to join us here for this final interview. We’ll see you Monday night!
Your Soul is MINE!
The scene: A dark room, an empty chair and a light over the chair.
Footsteps. They grow closer and closer as we see a shadow getting closer to the light. The figure sits down as the camera pans over to see who it is. Famine of the Vile. The Demon King.
Famine: I was going to quote the old line from the Godfather about getting pulled back in but why bother. Here I am once again. For the last time. I know it’s been said before but let’s be honest. None of us ever really go away for good. Time and again we are pulled back in for one reason or another only to disappear into the darkness. Some fade away, some come back from the darkness. For me, the darkness has always been my home. I never left it and it never left me. Did I put it away? Sure. But in doing so I took away the one thing that makes me who I am.
The light begins to flicker on and off for a few seconds. Famine’s face begins to change with the flickering. It stops.
Famine: In all the years I’ve business, I’ve dealt with a lot of men who’ve thought they were the one. Who thought they would finally end the darkness by trying to drag it into the light. They all failed. While some managed to put a stop to my reign, it was only temporary. I always came back and always made sure they knew I was not going to go away so easily. Now, here we are once again at the precipice of a final battle that will forever be remembered by those who watched and those who participated.
The light flickers on and off once again until it’s off. When it comes back on we see the Demon King!
Famine (Demon King): There is an eternal balance that depends upon the harmony of the universe. The birth of legends comes from the struggle to maintain this balance. YOU MDK will be made a legend, but not in the way you think. You see, the balance between darkness and light depends on two souls locked in an eternal battle that sees no winner. If there is to be a winner, one must strike the other down for control. The balance would then shift and change the universe for a very long time.
That time has come. The time has come for me to change the balance of power and bring forth the darkness that has for far too long been kept dormant and locked away like a common criminal. The time has come to unleash true hell on earth and deliver a quick and steady blow that will shed your blood into the soil forever. Your name is your own demise. Murder. Death. Kill. Words on a vocabulary that has existed since the dawn of time. Since the darkness has been around. Since…..I’VE been around! You think yourself a savior? You’re nothing more than an insignificant animal that will be sacrificed and offered to feed the hunger of the darkness.
Deep down inside, you know that there is no place to run and no place to hide once you’re standing face to face with the Demon King. In the fires of eternal damnation shall you forever be tormented. Your screams will be the soothing sound that helps me to go sleep and the sound that others will hear before they meet their own demise. Take a deep breath and enjoy your moment in the sun because come Monday? The lights will go out permanently never to be turned on again. I will stand over your beaten corpse and take your soul into the deepest places of hell. You can stand there and talk everyone to death while making claims you can’t and won’t be able to back up, but you and I both know, you can’t survive this. You won’t. You never stood a chance. You think you’re going to win?! You can never defeat me! I am darkness eternal!
The light flickers on and off again, this time staying off. Permanently.
